What a great crowd turned out tonight to watch the BCRL Championship Grand Final.
The atmosphere was terrific as the best ever crowd for a Rugby League game in Vancouver came out to watch two tough teams battle it out. Klahanie Park was bursting at the seams as new fans come out to watch Rugby League! Capilano RFC Cougars went into the game as favourites after being undefeated all season and playing the Grand Final at home. Vancouver Dragons have improved every game throughout the season but tonight everything went horribly wrong in the first half.
Cougars opened up a 24-0 lead by half time with tough & uncompromising games from their players right across the park. They were never really tested by a Dragons team that left their worst game until tonight. A terrible completion rate showed they failed to complete any sets in the first half which spelt bad news in every way possible.
Mistakes became an ongoing problem with their kicking game very poor and then failing to find touch on penalty kicks! However, any team can only play as well as the opposition allow you to and the Cougars were structured, quick off the line in defence and very powerful in moving the ball up the field. The second half was a bit of an arm wrestle with both teams scoring only 6 points but the mistakes were consistent.
Cougars might have been defeated in last years Grand Final after leading at half time but not in 2015 and were a credit to their club & all their fans who came out on the night. A super season where they remain undefeated and take home the trophy.
Cougars 30 (A.Boyd, J.Couzins, L.McLennan, J.O’Neil, J.Hulett tries; W.Newbiggen 5 goals) defeated Dragons 6 (C.Seyler try; K.Gurniak goal)
