The Canada Rugby League Association (CRLA) are excited to cconfirm that the Team Canada Junior Wolverines U17’s will tour Jamaica in August the first of its kind in the region.
The Junior Wolverines will arrive on Monday August 22nd and depart on Sunday August 28th. The main game between the nations will be played on Saturday August 27th in Kingston along with a midweek 9s competition.
JRLA director of rugby Romeo Monteith commented: “Jamaica is happy to receive Canada on this historic youth tour. Both nations have shown a real commitment to developing international rugby league in the Americas and this venture is further indication of our resolve.”
CRL president Paul O’Keefe added: “The Canada Rugby League Board Association are committed to their Youth Development Programme and the funding for this tour is the most the CRLA has ever spent on any playing group.
“We are flying the best U17s players from Western Canada over to Toronto to play against the best players in the East before selecting a squad to represent the Junior Wolverines. The 9s event will ensure as many young players as possible in Jamaica get to participate at a higher level of competition.
“Jamaica has a fantastic youth programme and their players deserve the opportunity to play against overseas competition in front of their home fans.”
